Yarn Challenge: Upcyced Jewelry into Yarn

Pin It Now!

Back in May I posted on my Facebook page that I needed a challenge, and asked my fans to submit their ideas.  This idea comes from Fran Kew.  She wanted to see how I would use upcycled jewelry into yarn.  :)

Well after my cross-country move and unpacking and reorganizing I went to several thrift stores and didn't find ANY jewelry that inspired me.  Boo!  However, my friends Pam and Tanya emailed me their yarns spun with upcycled jewelry and they came out amazing - so here are the results for your viewing pleasure!!!
"Hi Ashley, here is my yarn with thrift shop jewelry for the yarn challenge. I visited a thrift shop here in town and bought a  little girls charm bracelet with 7 charms. I removed the yarn and chose the colors. I spun a wire core yarn with a gold thread to match and enhance the little charms. There are 7 charms, hearts, bows, locks and roses. There is 10 yards of handspun. My thought is to knit a little choker and matching cuff for a little girl. Im calling the yarn Little Dreamer"- Pam

I had planned to continue these challenges thru the summer & fall - but I'm deep in the trenches of writing a book right now.  So in order to make that book as amazing as I possibly can - I have to step back my blogging a bit.  I don't have time to do yarn challenges + blogging + writing a book.

I will have the entire book written by the end of November.  So starting in November after the book has gone to the editorial/printing process (publish date scheduled for Spring 2013) I will have more time to spend on blogging and yarn challenges.

So please keep the yarn challenge ideas coming!  And I will continue the challenges again once the book is written.  Thanks for your understanding.

I ran out of time, it seems like a week is too short a time for me to go buy supplies (during summer with my daughter home) and plan a yarn and finish whatever is already on the wheel and then spin the yarn. So I'm still working on this yarn. I may finish it tomorrow, and I'll post a picture when I have it done, even though it's late :)
