Art Yarn Embellishments

Pin It Now!

One of my favorite things about art yarns is the little embellishments you can throw in to make it unique.  A yard of this, a scrap of that.  The yarns that get my attention at fiber shows & festivals are the ones that are full of bits and pieces of whimsy.

So today on our first ever Tutorial Tuesday I'm going to show you how I add pearls in-line to my yarn while I am corespinning (as opposed to plying them in on a plying thread as in my older video from a couple years ago) and also how to add little crochet flowers and a novelty yarn as a core for a couple yards.

It's fun to see how an idea of a yarn transforms from a pile of fluff & nonsense...

To a skein of yarn!

All of these ideas I have learned from other spinners - everything I share with you has been shared with me.  I've played with it a little bit, but the concepts and inspiration have come from my fellow art yarn spinners.  So full credit and kudos to all the wonderful spinners around the world (pluckyfluff, jazzturtle, rosie wildwoman) who have pushed me out of my creative ruts and shown me their skills - who have written books, published videos, and shared their knowledge with me.

What I share with you on this blog is only a drop in the bucket of the wealth of spinning information that is out there if you're looking!  If you're loving what you see, might I suggest starting with the books INTERTWINED and HANDSPUN by Lexi Boeger.

I hope you enjoyed the video.  I'm really having fun with the songs that YouTube offers to put for free on videos.  I hope you're enjoying the music selection that I've been choosing.
